About Newport

Newport is a vibrant, small town on the shores of Clew Bay in County Mayo. The town sits astride the Black Oak River, with Main Street running north from the road bridge, and Medlycott Street running west on the south side of the bridge. The two most prominent features in the town are St Patrick's Church  on Barrack Hill which towers over the town, and the seven arch disused railway viaduct across the river. Newport has good road connections to the larger towns of Westport (12 km) to the south, and Castlebar (18 km) to the east.
